The Spirit of Dance Academy took the stage to perform traditional Bollywood dancing during the Diwali: Festival of Lights celebration at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre on Nov. 4, 2023.

Diwali will be on full display in Port Coquitlam this weekend as part of the Festival of Lights.

For a second consecutive year, the South Asian Collective Society has organized a day-long family-friendly event at Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The free celebration marks the triumph of good over evil and has been acknowledged for thousands of years in Hindu culture.

This will include energetic dance performances, traditional foods and an artisan market with crafts handmade by women and small business entrepreneurs.

As well, organizers have put together a series of drop-in dance and art workshops for patrons and visitors to participate.

"This event is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, learn about South Asian culture, and celebrate the festival of lights in a welcoming community atmosphere," the South Asian Collective Society said in a news release.
