For shoppers looking for fresh fare to serve for their Thanksgiving dinner this weekend, there’s great news in Port Coquitlam.
Last week, the city announced it would host another two weeks of the farmers market at the Leigh Square Community Arts Village — extending the season until Oct.11.
Market manager Aynsley Wong Meldrum told The Tri-City News that visitors were calling for the market to continue over the harvest to gain fall fruits and vegetables.
And the city was able to accommodate the requests this year with additional lighting to brighten the square, with the nights falling earlier.
Wong Meldrum said she was only able to secure two more weeks as vendors were committed elsewhere.
Sponsored by the city, Downtown Port Coquitlam Business Improvement Association and Vancity, the market runs on Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m.
The Oct. 4 theme is Celebrate Autumn, with Saran Ekambaram entertaining, while the Oct. 11 finale is based on Stone Soup, with Todd Brown performing on stage; the last market closes at 6 p.m. for the annual vendor celebration.
