Both Tri-City Members of Parliament said they were safe after a frightening scene in Ottawa Wednesday morning where a gunman opened fire on Parliament Hill.

New Westminster-Coquitlam NDP MP Fin Donnelly and Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam Conservative MP James Moore told The Tri-City News they were unharmed in the incident.

In fact, Donnelly was doing constituency work in his riding this week, but said his Parliament Hill office was locked down.

"The parliamentary precinct is still in lock down and the area of lock down is expanding," he said at around 10 a.m. pacific time. "My colleagues and our staff are being told to remain in a safe place. My constituency staff [in the New Westminster-Coquitlam riding] have been asked to close the office and head home for the day."

More to come...
