A student and an alumna from Vancouver Community College (VCC) will showcase their wares tonight, April 9, for Vancouver Fashion Week.
Heather Cameron of Belcarra and Coquitlam’s Pearl Lui will see their final garment projects and designs on the catwalk.
Cameron’s style is meant to reflect the fluidity of butterfly wings, bringing the same colourful array to her clothing as she had as a child. Most of Cameron’s pieces are streetwear, second-hand thrift and dead materials.
As for Lui, the VCC graduate is inspired by her Hong Kong roots, tying history into her designs. Like Cameron, she also sources eco-friendly materials.
“We are so proud of our students' creativity and dedication to their craft,” said VCC’s Sarah Murray, fashion program coordinator, in a news release. “After two years of hard work, showing at Vancouver Fashion Week is the pinnacle of our students' experience with VCC Fashion. The opportunity to be seen on the runway by media and industry is an amazing launch pad for our students' careers in fashion.”
