Friday, April 11

Live tunes

Hear music and support the Crossroads Hospice Society at the Crossroads Coffeehouse, on from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Gathering Place at Leigh Square (behind Port Coquitlam City Hall). The New Westminster-based Cat Murphy Band opens while Pat Chessell, who recently released an EP titled The Ghosts of Yesterday, is the headliner at 8:50 p.m. Admission is a suggested $10 donation at the door (cash only). Refreshments will be provided to attendees.

Saturday, April 12

Spring clean

Donate your gently used garments, books and household items to the Big Brothers Spring Clean-up Clothing Drive at IKEA (southern end of the parking lot, 1000 Lougheed Hwy., Coquitlam). The annual event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and people who bring two IKEA-sized bags of clothing or household goods will get a special gift in appreciation if they're an IKEA "family member." Habitat for Humanity will also be on-site to accept large furniture donations.

Honour PoCo heroes

See the unveiling of the permanent display Terry Fox: Inspiring Local Champions at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) at 11 a.m. The exhibit opening coincides with the 45th anniversary of the start of Fox’s Marathon of Hope in 1980.

The Knitting Pilgrim

Catch Kirk Dunn, an actor and knitter, in a one-man show called The Knitting Pilgrim that mixes storytelling, multimedia and three knitted panels that resemble stained glass windows. The play at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way) at 3 p.m or 7:30 p.m. explores Dunn’s 15-year artistic and spiritual journey of knitting, as well as the power to overcome major obstacles. Tickets are $47/$40/$16.

Sunday, April 13

Inlet Field honour

Honour Bob Favelle and his lifelong contributions to Port Moody soccer at Inlet Park (3024 Murray St., Port Moody) where, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., the city will rename Inlet Field to Bob Favelle Field. Favelle is a past executive director of the Port Moody Soccer Club and a past director of BC Soccer.

Happy Vaisakhi!

Lean about the Indian harvest celebration of Vaisakhi (Baisakhi) at the weekly Port Moody Winter Farmers Market, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Rd.). Sample traditional food, take part in a rangoli colouring activity and see a dance performance by the Shan E Punjab Dancers at 11 a.m. There is no cost to attend.

Family Day at PdA

Take the kids to Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) for an afternoon of creative fun. Tour the galleries to find inspiration and experiment with different art forms. Entry is free; however, pre-registration is encouraged for the Metro Vancouver-sponsored event that runs from 1 to 3 p.m.
