Solar Eclipse

Kids ages eight and up, as well as teens and adults, can join astronomer Bill Burnyeat for a solar eclipse viewing from the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.) from 8:15 to 10:30 a.m. Burnyeat will be in the parking lot to lead the viewing.

Protect Our Children

Speakers from the PLEA Community Services’ Children of the Street program, along with the Fraser Health Forensic Nursing Service, the Amanda Todd Legacy Society and Yo Bro Yo Girl Youth Initiative will talk about how to protect children in the Tri-Cities. Presented by the Tri-Cities’ Rotary Clubs, the free event is from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship in Coquitlam (1160 Lansdowne Dr.). Lunch and light refreshments will be served.

Rock and Gem Show

The Port Moody Rock and Gem Club is back with its 42nd annual show and sale at the Kyle Centre (125 Kyle St., Port Moody) today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event theme is "Everything Rocks! An introduction to the lapidary hobby, rocks, minerals and geology." Admission is by donation.

Repair Cafe

Take your broken household items to the monthly Repair Cafe, where volunteers and City of Port Coquitlam staff will help you fix them. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the public works yard (1737 Broadway St., Port Coquitlam).

Craft Sale

Head over to the Glenayre Community Centre (492 Glenco Dr., Port Moody) with your shopping bags for the Glenayre Craft Sale and Food Drive. The event is on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes wares created by local artisans and refreshments. Non-perishable food items and cash can also be donated for the SHARE food bank.

Writing a Memoir

Scribes can learn how to write a memoir with Heather Conn at the Tri-City Wordsmiths workshop, on from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Terry Fox Library in Port Coquitlam (2150 Wilson Ave.) or via Zoom. Conn is the author of No Letter in Your Pocket, two Vancouver histories and two fiction picture books. She has written for 50 publications and a variety of anthologies.

South Asian

Join Gurdeep Birdi, a board member with the Diwali Celebration Society, for an artistic gathering at the Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. South Asian musicians, visual artists, writers and dancers will perform and share stories inspired by the current exhibit: RISE: Sandeep Johal and Sara Khan. The event, hosted in part by Coquitlam Heritage, is open to ages 12 and up.

Lagerhosen

Party Oktoberfest-style at Lagerhosen, happening from 4 p.m. to midnight at Site B (3012 Murray St., Port Moody). Beer, music, food, games and contests will be served up; German costumes are welcome.

Indigenous Art, Stories

Be part of a workshop led by Indigenous artist and educator Christine Mackenzie at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) at 6 p.m. Participants ages 18 and older can create an artwork based on Mackenzie’s exhibit, called All My Relations, at the gallery. Registration via Eventbrite.ca is by donation, which will benefit the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.

Bowie Tribute

Sing David Bowie’s songs at the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody (100 Newport Dr.) as part of Bowie: The Tribute — Re-Live the Reality Tour. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
