Art reception
Meet the artists behind the three new exhibits opening at PoMoArts (2425 St. Johns St., Port Moody). Denise Jeffrey, Ellen Pelto, Celeste Snowber, Carolyn Sullivan and Sande Waters have Tafoni: Weathering; Brianne Siu opens Permission to Play; and Jason Young showcases Relational/Reflexive. Backyard ecology
Change the way you garden by attending a talk presented by the Wondrous Tree Fellowship and the Burke Mountain Naturalists. Red Seal horticulturalist James Bobick will speak about how to move away from traditional lawns, synthetic turf and impermeable surfaces to pollinator-friendly plantings and woodland gardens to fit any space. The event runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Lecture Theatre A1470 at the Douglas College campus in Coquitlam (1250 Pinetree Way). There is no cost to attend.

Made in Italy
Follow the story of Francesco Mantini, a second-generation Italian teen growing up in Jasper, Alta. The Arts Club Theatre production by Farren Timoteo, which is based on the Western Canada Theatre show, is at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) until March 17. Tickets are $50/$42/$16. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.
