Here's what's on in the Tri-Cities for Saturday, July 27, 2024: 


Caribbean Days

The 35th annual Caribbean Days Festival returns to Coquitlam's Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) for its weekend celebration. Organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Society of BC, the event runs today from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. featuring food, vendors and performances. The Parade in the Park is at 11 a.m. There is no charge for admission. Due to high attendance, avoid travelling by car and take SkyTrain to the Lafarge Lake–Douglas station and walk 10 minutes to the festival site.

Clothes for Africa

Shiloh Place hosts a Clean Out Your Closet fundraiser to help the Coquitlam-based organization support 120 boys and girls at Shiloh Place's elementary school in Africa. The nonprofit seeks donations of used, clean and re-sellable clothing, shoes, accessories and household items. Drop off is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sentinel Storage (W1084-1055 Lucille Starr Dr., Coquitlam).

Free art

Families can tour the Michael Wright Art Gallery at Port Coquitlam’s Leigh Square (next to city hall) and make an art piece based on the current shows. The Art in the Gallery program runs on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. There is no cost to attend. Art supplies will be provided. No registration is required.

Theatrical students

Director Michael Fera leads Place des Arts’ Summer Theatre Troupe in a production of Winnie the Pooh. Adapted by Lindsay Price, the A.A. Milne story follows Pooh Bear, Piglet and their fiends in the Hundred Acre Wood. Admission is free; however, registration is required. Today’s shows at the Coquitlam arts hub (1120 Brunette Ave.) are at 4:30 and 7 p.m.

Legion music

Dance to the music of the Whiskey Bent, which plays at the Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) from 7 to 11 p.m.

Lacrosse action

Sport your Coquitlam Adanacs jersey to cheer on the home team at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam). Today’s match at 7 p.m. is versus the Burnaby Lakers.

Cocktails, music

The award-winning Laila Biali performs at the inaugural Summer Cocktail Concert series at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) for a show at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. Cocktails will be served at 6:30 p.m. to ticket-holders. Admission is $49.

Movie night

Catch a free movie under the stars with the City of Port Coquitlam, which will inflate its 40’ tall silver screen at Evergreen Park (north of Prairie Avenue, off Cedar Drive) for The Fall Guy at 8:45 p.m. Bring a picnic, blanket, lawn chairs and drinks.
