Art shows

Meet the artists behind the new exhibits up in the City of Port Coquitlam. The opening reception for three shows — A Balance of Dichotomies by Leah Biggs, Darcy Mann and Jenny Smith; Scheherazade Tells Stories by Shahrzad Laali and Place Portraits by Keely O’Brien — can be seen in Leigh Square in the Michael Wright Art Gallery, The Outlet Gallery and in the city hall gallery, respectively. The reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Michael Wright Art Gallery.

Into The Woods

Musical theatre students at Port Coquitlam's Riverside Secondary (2215 Reeve St.) perform the full version of Into The Woods, the Stephen Sondheim classic about fairytales and twisted fates. Based on a book by James Lapine, the school show starts at 7 p.m. and is directed, produced, choreographed and set designed by Nicole Roberge.

West Side Story

Chiara Go plays Maria while Justin Luo, also in Grade 11, portrays Tony in West Side Story, a Pinetree Secondary production at the Coquitlam high school (3000 Pinewood Ave). Tickets at $15/$10 can be bought at the door on show nights or through SD43’s School Cash Online system. The curtain rises at 7 p.m.

Grease is the word

Centennial Secondary students Siryn and Phoenix Cowie direct the musical theatre students at the Coquitlam high school (570 Poirier St.) in Grease, with choreography by Makenna and Tessa Jung. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $19/$15.
