Taste of the Tri-Cities

Support Tri-City eateries during their slow season with the Taste of the Tri-Cities, a food festival that runs Feb. 15 to March 15. Presented by Sysco, the fest features more than 75 restaurants, bars and cafés that have specials meals and deals. Contest prizes will also be available through social media organized by the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce. The culinary event is run by Tri-Local, made up of the Austin Heights BIA; the Downtown Port Coquitlam BIA; the cities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody; and the Tri-City News.

School byelection

Coquitlam residents can vote for a new School District 43 (SD43) trustee for Coquitlam at the advance poll, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pinetree Community Centre (1260 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). General voting day is Saturday, Feb. 22, to replace the seat vacated by Jennifer Blatherwick, now the MLA for Coquitlam–Maillardville. The candidates are (in alphabetical order) Coquitlam residents Frank Do, Dana Ebtekar, Candace Knoll, Rosey Manhas and, from Port Moody, Nash Milani. Read their bios here.

Happy Valentine’s

Take the family to the Port Moody Public Library (100 Newport Dr.) for a Valentine’s Day-themed event with crafts, dancing, a scavenger hunt and photos. The party is from 11 a.m. to noon.

Polar bear plunge

Run into the Port Moody Inlet in support of Special Olympics BC. The cold plunge is at noon from the boat launch at Rocky Point Park (2800-block of Murray Street, Port Moody). Join the Port Moody Police Department and other first responders to support the fundraiser.

Black History Month

Celebrate Black History Month at the Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Ave., Coquitlam) from 1 to 4 p.m. where there will be music, food, vendors and family activities organized by Coquitlam Heritage. The event is free; no registration is required.

Board games

Families can have fun and meet new people to play board games at the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St., Coquitlam) at 1:30 p.m. Entry is free; registration is not needed. The event is recommended for ages eight and older.

Grease is the word

Centennial Secondary students Siryn and Phoenix Cowie direct the musical theatre students at the Coquitlam high school (570 Poirier St.) in Grease, with choreography by Makenna and Tessa Jung. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $19/$15.

Disney Descendants

Young musical theatre students under the Theatrix program perform Disney’s Descendants: The Musical at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20/$15/$12.

Tina, Linda

Catch a performance by tribute artists Truly Tina and Classic Ronstadt at 7 p.m. at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.) at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $45.

Legion music

Listen to the tunes from Lou Morrocco at the Royal Canadian Legion (1025 Ridgeway Ave., Coquitlam). The band performs from 7 to 10 p.m.

Salsa moves

Take a Salsa, bachata and merengue lesson then dance the night away with the Salsa Dance Zone at Site B (3012 Murray St., Port Moody) from 8 p.m. to midnight. The Spicy Valentine's Night is for ages 19+. Admission is $15 at the door. The event is licensed and parking is free.
