Christmas market
The annual Coquitlam Christmas Farmers Market returns to the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 40 vendors from around B.C. will be on site to sell baked goods, prepared food, drinks and crafts. There will also be entertainment.

Santa train
Shopping downtown Vancouver for the holidays? Jump on the West Coast Express’ annual Santa Train, which leaves Port Coquitlam at 10:39 a.m., Coquitlam Central at 10:45 a.m. and Moody Centre at 10:50 a.m.; the return trip from Waterfront is at 4 p.m. Riders donate a new, unwrapped toy for a free ride on the Santa Train. Mr. Claus will be at Waterfront at 2:45 p.m. for photos.

Board games
Residents of all ages can head over to the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (1169 Pinetree Way) at 1:30 p.m. to play board games. No registration is required. The event is suitable for ages eight and up.

Exhibition tour
Join staff at the Art Gallery at Evergreen (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) at 2 p.m. for a drop-in tour of the latest display Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell. There is no cost to attend.

Anna and Elsa
Families can head to Mary Anne’s Place (50 Queens St., Port Moody) for a free holiday art event with Anna and Elsa, the characters from the movie Frozen. Organized with Placemaker Communities and Grit Cafe, the event runs from 3 to 5 p.m. and includes art instruction, hot chocolate and entertainment for the kids. Placemaker will donate $10 for every new, unwrapped toy brought in for a tween or teen for the SHARE toy drive. The activities are suitable for ages three to 10.

Light parade
Port Coquitlam will have its first Parade of Lights in the Tri-Cities to celebrate the holiday season. The procession of the city’s illuminated fleet starts at 5 p.m. from the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) and moves along Kelly Avenue to Shaughnessy Street, east on McAllister Avenue and Mary Hill Road before returning to Kelly Avenue. A public skate, activities and treats will be available afterwards at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. Some downtown roads will be closed for the parade, from 4:45 to 7 p.m. Park for free at the community hub, Gates Park and Legion branch or along Kingsway Avenue and Mary Hill Road.

Inlet music
Port Moody musicians Shannon Gaye, a singer and percussionist, and Kristian Alexandrov, a JUNO-nominated pianist, perform soulful seasonal tunes at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.) at 7:30 p.m. The show is part of the Inlet Theatre Music Series organized by Bill Sample and Darlene Cooper. The concert also includes musicians Jay Buetner (guitar); Gord Maxwell (bass/vocals); and Adam Cormier (drums). Advance tickets are $35.

Rainbow tree
Join queer-themed musician Matthew Presidente as he presents Rainbow Tree at 8 p.m. in the rehearsal hall at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). Presidente will share songs from his latest album, Chosen Sun, and stories in a musical journey that looks at identity, love, and self-discovery. Tickets are $25/$16.
