Ring, stick and puck

Practice your hockey or ringette skills at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.). The activity from 7:30 to 9 a.m. is open to ages four and up and who can skate. Skaters ages eight and under must be accompanied by a supervisor age 16 and older. Goalies are not permitted.

New Year’s Eve skate

Lace up your skates for a New Year’s Eve day spin at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.): Ring, Stick and Puck is 7:30 to 9 a.m.; Family Play and Skate is 9:30 to 11 a.m.; and public skate is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. Donations to the SHARE Family and Community Services’ food bank will be accepted.

Legion music

Take to the dance floor at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 263 in Coquitlam (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) as Whiskey Bent hits the stage at 7 p.m.

QuiRing in the New Year

It’s the 15th anniversary of QuiRing in the New Year, a classical music concert hosted by Coquitlam musicians Reg Quiring (viola) and Rosemary O’Connor at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way). Hear the couple play with the Quiring Chamber Players from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. before the calendar turns to 2024. Tickets are $46/$40/$16.

Lake walk

Get your fitness New Year’s Resolution in a day early by walking the 1.2-km Lights at Lafarge loop at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam (1299 Pinetree Way). The lights are on until midnight to see the largest free outdoor light display in Metro Vancouver. Be sure to make a wish in a tunnel!

Operation Red Nose

If you’re out tonight and need a safe ride home, call the volunteers at Operation Red Nose Tri-Cities — an organization that supports KidSport Tri-Cities to help families register their children in sports. A driver and navigator will drive you home in your own vehicle while an escort driver in another car follows behind to collect the volunteers afterward. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 3 a.m.
