Tri-Cities collectively holding 83% average COVID-19 first-dose vaccine rate: data

Case rates are slightly changing, but the BCCDC'S overall report has all five sub-regions continuously improving thanks to recent immunization initiatives.

For a second consecutive week, the Tri-Cities modestly increased its vaccination rates in holding a collective average of 83%.

That's according to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), which also shows the region moving in the right direction and entering a light buffer period as most eligible residents aged 12 and older await their second dose.

Port Moody-Anmore-Belcarra continues to lead the Tri-Cities' network as its one-dose vaccination rate nears the 85% threshold.

The case rates per sub-region have fluctuated once again with southeast Coquitlam the only one that recorded a zero case-rate average in the BCCDC's surveillance week-to-week report.

Everywhere else saw just one infection detected and thus leading to a hop to 1% positivity rates for now.

The data — collected between July 13 and 19 — broken down among the five surveillance neighbourhoods are as follows:

North Coquitlam

  • One case

  • 82% of 18+ population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 81% of 18-49 population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 85% of 50+ population vaccinated with at least one dose

Southwest Coquitlam

  • 1% positivity rate
  • 83% of 12+ population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 84% of 18+ population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 82% of 18-49 population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 87% of 50+ population vaccinated with at least one dose

Southeast Coquitlam

  • Zero cases
  • 0% positivity rate
  • 82% of 12+ population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 83% of 18+ population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 80% of 18-49 population vaccinated with at least one dose
  • 86% of 50+ population vaccinated with at least one dose

Port Coquitlam

  • One case
  • 1% positivity rate
  • 82% of 12+ population vaccinated with at least one dose

Last Saturday (July 17), Fraser Health hosted a pop-up vaccine clinic in Port Moody's Rocky Point Park in hopes of administering up to 300 doses for those who were looking to get jabbed.

Eligible residents who had not received their first were given priority, while second jabs were potentially inoculated if enough doses were leftover from the day.

"We've been to many other parks. We've been to Crescent Beach, we've been to Cultus Lake and we wanted to have the opportunity to be at another park within Fraser Health and we thought this was a great place to be," Fraser Health spokesperson Krystine Juck told the Tri-City News at the clinic, which was set up underneath the performance stage.

"There's so many people that congregate here in the summer and just thought this would be a great opportunity to bring community support to the Tri-Cities area."

As of this publication (July 21), Fraser Health has recorded 86,185 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, including 27 new ones between Monday and Tuesday.

There are currently 182 active cases across the authority, four people admitted into critical care or ICU among 15 hospitalizations, and 85,071 recoveries.

Sadly, a total of 924 people have succumbed to the virus between Burnaby and Boston Bar.

DO YOU STILL NEED A FIRST VACCINE DOSE?

Coquitlam's two COVID-19 vaccine clinics are accepting walk-ins for eligible residents 12 years and older who haven't received their first jab.

The locations are as follows:

  • Coquitlam Central Station Park and Ride overflow lot (2900 Barnet Hwy.)
  • 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • Entrance off Mariner Way – east side of Rona. Proceed down the ramp and turn right
    • The address will direct you to the main lot on the left but COVID-19 Services are located in the overflow lot to the right
    • Do not cut through the Rona parking lot. Please follow the signs

WHEN CAN I GET MY SECOND DOSE?

Those who've registered through the B.C.'s GetVaccinated portal for their first vaccine will receive a notification — by the method you selected during the initial registration — when they can book an appointment to receive their second jab.

Fraser Health says if you booked your first dose through the authority's website or your local pharmacy, you're asked to register with the provincial system.
