Extra Millennium Line trains will be operating for the Celebration of LIght at English Bay this weekend and Tri-City residents are encouraged to take transit if they choose to attend the fireworks display.

TransLink will also be selling pre-purchased return tickets, making it easier for people trying to make their way home on the transit system. Portable fare boxes will be available at King George, Granville, Burrard, Bridgeport, Yaletown-Roundhouse and Vancouver City Centre stations.

The SkyTrain line will provide rush-hour service levels for all three fireworks nights beginning in the mid-afternoon, with every available train operating after the show to take people home.

The last Expo/Millenium Line train will leave Waterfront Station for King George at 1:16 a.m., however TransLink said trains will run until everyone has been picked up from the downtown platforms (customers must be inside the stations when the gates close).

Coast Mountain Buses will also have additional coaches available for the fireworks nights and transit supervisors said they would be monitoring the situations to deploy buses as needed.

Transit police will be on hand throughout the transit system to assist local police and maintain order. They said those who attend the Celebration of LIght should:

keep personal belongings safe by closing purses and keeping wallets in pockets;

have a place where family or friends can meet in case they get separated;

make sure they have used a restroom before they leave as there are no washrooms along the SkyTrain line.

Transit police also remind the public that open alcohol is not permitted. Any inappropriate conduct -intoxicated or not -will not be tolerated.
