Crunch challenge

Wake up early to cheer on the participants in the annual Coquitlam Crunch Challenge, a fundraiser for the Coquitlam Foundation’s Diversity Initiative Fund. There are four events: the Stair Master at 8 a.m.; the 8-km run at 8:55 a.m.; Make It or Break It at 8:55 a.m.; and Recreational at 10 a.m. Park north of Scott Creek Middle School. Donations are welcome, including for KidSport Tri-Cities. The Crunch is located off Guildford Way in Coquitlam.

Shred it

Take your unwanted documents and papers in for shredding at a fundraiser hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Moody. Shop for fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, prepared meals and beverages at the 17th Port Coquitlam Farmers Market, which runs from 3 to 7 p.m. at Terry Fox Hometown Square (south of the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, 2150 Wilson Ave.). More than 45 farmers and vendors are on site. The market is run by the Fraser North Farmers Market Society.

The Wilson Seniors Advisory Board and the City of Port Coquitlam host the second annual Seniors Health and Wellness Fair, on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Mabbett Hall at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.). The event caps off Seniors Week in PoCo. It’s the last week to see the Imaginings VI exhibit at Leigh Square in Port Coquitlam. Writers fest

Public libraries in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody host their inaugural Tri-Cities Writers Festival, a two-day event in person and online celebrating authors and books. The event kicks off today at 9:45 a.m. with a talk for scribes ages nine to 13 from writer David A. Robertson followed by Kenneth Oppel, who will speak to writers ages eight to 13. Adult writers can hear from Michelle Good at 12:45 p.m. and Iona Whishaw at 2 p.m. A cocktail reception (for ages 19+ and with a $10 ticket) is from 5 to 7 p.m. at the City Centre branch (1169 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) while a writers’ roundtable is from 7 to 8:30 p.m., also at the City Centre branch.

Art Shuffle

Explore Moody Centre in Port Moody and meet artists along the Art Shuffle, a community arts showcase featuring activities, a street market and demonstrations. More than 20 businesses and studios will have their doors open for the Shuffle, which runs from 4 to 9 p.m.

It's the opening night for ScotFestBC, a Scottish gathering at Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) that draws about 10,000 visitors a year. Tonight's free Pipes in the Park celebration starts at 6 p.m. with the SFU Pipe Band Drum Corps, RMM III Pipe Band, singer Bob Collins and champion highland dancer Marielle Lesperance taking the Main Stage at 6:20 p.m. The Tri-City News is a sponsor.

It’s the annual Founder’s Day for Coquitlam Little League, a baseball organization founded in 1955. The event at Mackin Yard (1046 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) marks the wrap up of the regular season for the league and includes a final game for the senior teams.

There's a full day of activities for the 92nd annual ScotFestBC, happening at Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam).
