It’s Family Day in B.C. on Monday, Feb. 17.

But some special activities will get underway in the Tri-Cities — ahead of the statutory holiday.

In Port Moody, families can visit to the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Rd.) on Sunday, Feb. 16, for a free 90-minute spin on the rink at 1 p.m. or at 2:45 p.m.

And for families with little ones, the city has its Family Day Jungle Gym open at 8:30 a.m. or 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, as well as its Family Drop-in Gym at 2:30 p.m. Registration is open via portmoody.ca/signmeup.

Meanwhile, on the southern side of the rec centre, in the parking lot, the Port Moody Winter Farmers Market will be open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Family Day fun, including a kids karaoke with Sue Breton, face painting and a scavenger hunt. There will also be a family painting workshop with PoMoArts’ instructors.

In Coquitlam, Sunday is the last night to tour Lights at Lafarge, the annual outdoor display of more than a million lights during the winter months. Take SkyTrain to the Lafarge Lake-Douglas station on the Millennium Line and walk 10 minutes east to the park to see the colourful show. Admission is free.

Coquitlam is also offering a variety of activities at its civic centres on Sunday that are free or have a low cost (to register for a drop-in class, visit the city’s website and paste in the Course ID).
