Bathing and showering just got easier for stroke patients and others being treated in Eagle Ridge Hospital's rehabilitation ward.
The high-tech equipment for patients with limited balance or mobility has been installed in the Port Moody hospital as part of a $676,747 grant from the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation.
At a recent meeting of the foundation board of directors, the hospital was given approval to purchase an extensive list of new equipment with money raised from the community.
"It's just amazing the fundraising we receive," said ERH foundation executive director Charlene Giovannetti-King, noting that the foundation was able to distribute nearly 30% more in grants this year because of community generosity.
Funds have been used to provide hearing aids for children in needy families, nursing education grants, money to operate the areola tattoo clinic for breast cancer patients, as well as equipment for medical imaging and cardiology, bladder scanners, a balance trainer for physical therapy, four new glidescopes for the operating room and two newly renovated rooms in the emergency department, one for pediatric care and the other for families needing privacy.
"It is our pleasure to work with this team to improve the health care services in the hospital and throughout the Tri-Cities while encouraging people in the area to live an active, healthy lifestyle," foundation board chair Alison Johansen said in a press release.
