Six graduates of Douglas College (DC) that call the Tri-Cities home are being recognized for their hard work in career and community.
The Coquitlam post-secondary has bestowed them with $1,000 each in marking the 35th anniversary of the school's foundation and alumni relations group.
This includes (in alphabetical order):
- Zainab Alkassab (Coquitlam)
- Marci Fisk Wiltshire (Port Coquitlam)
- Paula Mendoza (Coquitlam)
- Hye-min Moon (Coquitlam)
- Gabrielle Person (Coquitlam)
- Heather Simpson (Coquitlam)
The above are among 35 people receiving a slice of the $35,000 Alumni35 pot, which will be used for their career or passion project, or donate to charity, DC Faculty or program of their choice.
The DC Foundation said they each "embody Douglas' vision of graduating resilient global citizens" and, through work and life, "are using their skills and knowledge to adapt, innovate and lead in our ever-changing world."
"Being a member of the esteemed Alumni35 campaign is humbling and a great honour," explained Simpson.
A release from the foundation states Simpson was selected for her dedication to serving marginalized peoples and communities, specifically those with disabilities and Indigenous Peoples.
"To me, being a resilient global citizen is a shared space," she added.
"Achieving true belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion is taking ongoing actions that clearly demonstrate that without all our relatives, we are not whole."
