Coquitlam residents shaken by last week’s three shootings in the City Centre neighbourhood and on Burke Mountain can speak to police about the attacks.
On Saturday, Jan. 13, Mounties will be at the Glen Pine Pavilion (1200 Glen Pine Crt., south of Coquitlam City Hall) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to talk with residents about the shootings and how they’ve been affected by the recent violence in the community.
In the third incident, on Saturday, Jan. 6, a 21-year-old Coquitlam man was murdered in a high-traffic area around Westwood Street and Glen Drive at 4:14 p.m.
The first shooting, in a residential area west of Coquitlam Centre mall, happened around 3 p.m. on Jan. 4 while the second shooting took place on Jan. 5 around David Avenue and Mitchell Street on Burke Mountain at about 10:30 p.m.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the latest shooting file from the Coquitlam detachment following the killing.
“We understand that these shootings have caused significant concerns to the community and people may have questions about their safety,” said Coquitlam RCMP Insp. Darren Carr, operations support officer, in a news release.
“The public is encouraged to attend this outreach event on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024. This is a time for residents, community members and the public to come together, voice their concerns, ask questions and connect with resources.”
Among the resources on hand will be victim services staff, community police volunteers and police officers; home and personal safety, as well as Block Watch, information will also be available.
No registration is required for the drop-in event on Jan. 13 and free parking is in the underground parking lot off Glen Drive or at the two city parking lots off Burlington Drive by city hall.
