A Coquitlam school trustee will run for nomination to fill Selina Robinson’s seat in the next provincial election.

On Thursday, May 9, Jennifer Blatherwick announced she’s vying for the BC NDP nod in Coquitlam–Maillardville next month.

A two-term school trustee and the former executive director of the ACCESS Youth Outreach Services, Blatherwick said her focus as trustee is on young students with learning disabilities, as well as advocating for more daycares and school spaces in Coquitlam.

“I know first-hand how the BC NDP’s investments in childcare, mental wellness and housing have helped many families in our community,” the mother of five and Maillardville resident stated in a news release.

“I also know that there is much more work to do. If I have the opportunity to become the MLA for Coquitlam–Maillardville, I want to continue working to help people with costs, make sure we hire more doctors and build more schools.”

According to her website, Blatherwick is also the secretary of the Tri-Cities Pride Society and the Metro branch of the BC School Trustees Association.

She remains a board member of ACCESS, is the co-chair of the Tri-Cities Child Research Action Team, a director of the Coquitlam Foundation and a member of the Tri-Cities Homelessness Task Force.

In 2018, she won the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.

MLA incumbent Selina Robinson, who quit the party in February and is now an independent, is not running for re-election.
