Coquitlam Mounties are reminding the public to report crimes to the detachment — not via email or social media.
The request comes after the constituency office for Coquitlam–Maillardville MLA Selina Robinson was targeted late on Monday, Feb. 5, following her resignation as minister of post-secondary education and future skills.
Robinson stepped down from her post on Monday after calling the origins of Israel "a crappy piece of land with nothing on it" while speaking at a recent online panel with B’nai Brith Canada.
In response, a group called Canadian Antifa (@exposeisrael123) shared a video of Robinson's Austin Avenue office, claiming to have done some "decorating" with messages in chalk, including “We Do Not Accept Your Apology,” and on the windows, and posted signs with her image.
The "vandalism," as described by B.C. Premier David Eby on social media, was erased by her staff Tuesday morning, Feb. 6.
“Coquitlam RCMP proactively attended the closed office shortly before 1:30 p.m. but the outside of the office had already been cleaned up and there was no physical damage located,” wrote Cpl. Alexa Hodgins in a news release.
“Police want to remind the public that crimes can be reported to the Coquitlam RCMP by phone, in-person or online. The RCMP does not accept reports of crime via email or social media, thus timely reporting of a crime is critical to allow proper police follow up.”
Anyone who may have information, witnessed this incident or may have video footage of the alleged mischief is asked call the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-3092.
