Heads up, Tri-Cities outdoor recreation enthusiasts.
If your Easter long weekend included a trip to təmtəmíxʷtən/Belcarra Regional Park on Saturday (April 8), you might want to avoid the Diez Vista Trail - or reschedule a visit another time.
Hundreds of runners are expected to roam the popular Tri-Cities destination and loop in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 50K Diez Vista Trail Race by Coast Mountain Trail Running (CMTR).
Organizers are alerting the public that, while you can still hike the trail, 500 competitors participating in the sold-out event will take over most of the loops around Buntzen and Sasamat lakes.
The race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and wraps up around 6 p.m.
It starts and ends at White Pine Beach, and involves 2,000 m of elevation change.
In 2022, nearly 300 runners crossed the finish line after enduring the beloved 50-kilometre race across all divisions from 11 to more than 70 years old.
Nicholas Leach of North Vancouver recorded the fastest time of four hours, 33 minutes and 14 seconds.
Port Moody's Benjamin Hughes was only seven seconds behind (4:33.21) to finish first runner-up.
The Diez Vista Trail Race includes a one-kilometre kids run for those aged three to 10.
It also acts a a fundraiser as $10 from every registration fee has been earmarked for Coquitlam Search and Rescue (SAR) and will add to a donation of more than $17,400 to the non-profit in February.
For more information, and a route map of the run, you can visit the Diez Vista Trail Race page of CMTR's website.
