Youth across B.C. are being encouraged to potentially join a special team that aims to improve RCMP relations with their generation.
Provincial Mounties and Community Police Services have opened an application process for its youth advisory committee (YAC), which allows its members to discuss the issues that matter to them.
The group consists of 30 youth aged 14 to 18.
My experiences with RCMP Youth Advisory have helped me shape the person I am and hope to become," said Matthew, a former YAC member in a statement.
It has helped me become confident speaking out about injustices that I witness, and helped me develop other initiatives I'm involved with.
For RCMP, it's hoping successful participants and their respective insights can help improve provincial police methods to better initiatives for the youth community.
The upcoming YAC will serve from October 2021 to June 2022.
Interested youth are encouraged to submit an application by Sept. 21, 2021, and can be sent by email to [email protected].
