A public hearing will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, for a development proposal that would bring a Bosa Foods specialty grocery store, as well as 48 market rental apartments, to downtown Port Moody.

In July, council approved first and second readings for amendments to the city’s zoning and official community plan bylaws to move the project forward. But councillors did request a further few tweaks, including a boost to the number of 48 rental apartments that could be adapted for residents with mobility challenges from its current 24, as well as safety improvements for traffic and pedestrians along St. Andrews Street at the back of the project.

The 9,525 sq. ft. grocery store would occupy the first two floors of the six-storey sructure, with a 1,200 sq. ft. outdoor patio along the new multi-use path on St. Johns Street.

The apartments would be comprised of eight studio units, 21 with one bedroom, 12 two-bedrooms and seven three-bedrooms.

The roof features a garden and greenhouse as an amenity for residents.

As well, the developer plans to install pedestrian-activated traffic signals at the corner of St. Johns and Queens streets.

That delighted several councillors.

“People are constantly crossing that road,” said Mayor Meghan Lahti.

“Adding the crosswalk at St. Johns is a major positive,” added Coun. Samantha Agtarap.

The project would also require the developer acquire a 5.5-metre wide portion of the Queens Street right of way from the city at an assessed market value of $930,000.

The public hearing begins at 7 p.m.

Residents wishing to speak at a public hearing can attend in person at council chambers or register to appear electronically. Submissions can also be emailed in advance.
