Port Moody police officers arrested a man after residents called in concerns about someone walking onto their properties.

A man sneaking around a Port Moody neighbourhood was arrested on multiple warrants after alert residents called police.

Last Thursday (Oct. 21) residents in the Moody Centre area of Port Moody called in concerns about a man wandering through several backyards.

The man didn’t steal anything but appeared to be casing the homes, according to Port Moody police.

Spokesperson Const. Sam Zacharias said officers quickly responded but the man had left the scene.

Still, after more searching, they got their man, identifying him as a “known” property offender.

According to Zacharias, the man was wanted in two municipalities on multiple warrants.

He was taken into custody until he could be seen by a justice, and police are now congratulating residents for their quick action that may have prevented further crimes.

“Incidents like these are a great reminder of the importance of calling police right away when the public observes suspicious behaviour. Thanks to astute residents we were able to locate a wanted man and possibly prevent further offences,” Zacharias stated in an email to the Tri-City News.

PMPD has a “no call too small” philosophy, Zacharias further stated, and urged residents to call “not only to report a crime but all suspicious incidents, even if they may appear minor in nature.”
