Port Moody shutters city hall, rec complex for two weeks

Moves are in response to latest public health order for the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal health regions.

Port Moody city hall and the recreation complex are closed to visitors.

As well, all recreation programs are cancelled but the public library is still open.

The closures will be in effect through to Nov. 23, to comply with the latest public health orders issued last Saturday by provincial public health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry in response to a rising spike in COVID-19 cases in the Fraser and Vancouver Coastal health regions.

“The city has taken a number of steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 while working to maintain core services,” a press release stated.

Many city services will stay online, however, and staff can be contacted by phone or email.

Some cancelled recreation programs will be extended once the rec complex reopens while registrants for others will be issued refunds. Fitness memberships are on hold during the closure.

As for city council meetings, they will be a hybrid of live and electronic participation, with the Inlet Theatre remaining open for anyone who wants to attend in-person.
