Light housework this past summer may have led to some uncovered personal papers, with many householders suddenly realizing they're no longer needed.
But how can documents be safely disposed of?
The Rotary Club of Port Moody is looking to step in and help local residents by hosting a fall edition of its shred-a-thon event — which would be the second fundraising event in four months.
By donation, the community is encouraged to bring unwanted documents like old credit card bills, tax records and other related papers to Port Moody city hall (100 Newport Dr.) and the money collected is set to go to Rotary Club projects in the years to come.
However, regional Rotarians are asking the public to not bring plastics, photos, metal or CDs.
Best Shredding, a mobile company based in Coquitlam, will once again provide the technology to ensure secured document disposal.
This is set to be an in-person event, but COVID-19 health and safety protocols like social distancing will be in place at the city hall station.
The Shred-A-Thon is scheduled for Saturday (Oct. 2) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
