Port Moody police are investigating an assault by two youths that was captured on video.

Two youths have been arrested after an assault Monday afternoon, May 6, near the Moody Centre SkyTrain station was captured on video.

Port Moody Police Department (PMPD) spokesperson Const. Sam Zacharias said its youth services section was alerted on Tuesday, May 7, a video of the assault of a young female was circulating in the community.

Officers were able to identify the suspects and two 12-year-old boys were arrested and released with conditions.

Zacharias said the victim’s injuries were minor and the motive for the assault remains unclear. He added initial reports suggest the incident wasn’t provoked.

“We are still gathering evidence to support criminal charges,” Zacharias said in a news release.

“Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with us is asked to contact our investigators.”

Charges for social media stunt

Meanwhile, a man who allegedly drove his car down the boat ramp at Rocky Point Park and into Burrard Inlet for a social media stunt earlier this year has been charged with criminal mischief under $5,000.

Jawad Fawwaz is scheduled to appear at Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on Monday, May 13.

Zacharias said Fawwaz could face a fine or jail time up to two years if he's convicted.

The March 4 stunt, which was live-streamed, resulted in the partial closure of the boat ramp through the night and into the next morning while crews worked to remove the submerged vehicle.

Clean-up operations were also required to absorb fluids that had leaked from the vehicle.
