Port Moody's Ryan Johansen is out for at least 12 weeks following surgery on his right leg after the Nashville Predator endured an apparent skate cut in a game against Vancouver.

Ryan Johansen's 13th season in the NHL might be over.

The Port Moody product had emergency surgery on his right leg Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 22) after he appeared to be cut by a skate during Nashville's home game against Vancouver.

In a statement on social media, the Predators said the 30-year-old will miss roughly 12 weeks as a result of the injury.

Johansen left the Tuesday (Feb. 21) contest at Bridgestone Arena against his hometown Canucks in the second period after he was unable to put weight on the leg.

"Wanted to make a post to thank all of the docs out at the Franklin Vanderbilt for being outstanding In taking care of me," the centre wrote on social media post-surgery.

"Everyone who's reached out, it's really meant a lot that y'all have been thinking about me! We're in a dog fight to find our way into the playoffs and it's going to suck not being out there with my brothers, but y'all fans inspire us everyday and our group is gonna need you for this push."

The 12-week time-frame for Johansen tentatively ends around May 17, which, unless Nashville goes far in the playoffs, could mean Johansen's year is likely done.

As of this publication (Feb. 23), the Preds are fifth in the NHL's central division and seven points out of the second wild-card playoff spot.

Johansen recorded 12 goals and 28 points in 55 games this year in his eighth season with Nashville.

Meanwhile, Coquitlam's Mathew Barzal is also out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.

Barzal suffered an injury in the New York Islanders' last Saturday's (Feb. 18) game against Boston after taking a hit in the first period.

The 25-year-old skated around the ice during a stoppage in play, but went back to the locker room and didn't return.

Barzal has recorded 51 points and a team-high 37 assists in 58 games.
