Michaela Slinger is back in the United States for her career this weekend, but this time, it won't be strictly for producing music.
Instead, she'll belt out her vocals during her first-ever show in Los Angeles.
The Port Moody musician is on a bill this weekend for Breaking Sound — a showcase night in Hollywood for emerging recording artists.
Slinger spent time in southern California, as well as Nashville, Tenn., over the fall of 2021 to write songs for her albums.
Now, she's set to perform those songs and other original hits on Sunday night (March 27) in an establishment not far from iconic landmarks like the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the TCL Chinese Theatre.
"[That] trip helped me become more myself than ever," Slinger explained in a social media post.
"It’s overwhelming yet kinda cool to find the one thing you’ll spend your life chasing and refining and perfecting — not because there’s any guarantee of stability or success, but because nothing else feels quite like it."
On Sept. 15, 2021, Slinger got the chance to perform her first-ever live hometown show at Rocky Point Spirits, where she sung hits from her debut album 'Panorama.'
Her name is first on the list of musicians performing at Breaking Sound, who describes the 25-year-old as a singer with "stop-you-dead vocals" and "unflinching poetic observations about how relationships expand and contract within 21st century pressures."
Meanwhile, Slinger has also been touted to perform at a popular Vancouver Island summer music festival.
Laketown Shakedown has invited the Heritage Woods Secondary grad to take the Lake Cowichan stage over the Canada Day long weekend.
She's currently scheduled on Saturday's slot (July 2); the concert series also includes Arkells, Wu-Tang Clan, The Glorious Sons, Sugar Ray and Lights.
