Port Moody man charged after van filled with pot pulled over in Saskatchewan

The van was pulled over on the Trans Canada Highway near Swift Current.

More than 1,500 pounds of illicit cannabis was found in a cargo van driven by a Port Moody man when it was pulled over near Swift Current, Sask., on Jan. 9.

A 53-year-old man from Port Moody has been charged after RCMP officers in Saskatchewan pulled over the large cargo van he was driving and found it loaded with about 1,551 pounds of illicit cannabis packed in cardboard moving boxes and a sum of cash.

According to a news release, Saskatchewan RCMP’s roving traffic unit stopped the van last Thursday, Jan. 9, along the Trans Canada Highway near Swift Current.

The driver told officers he was travelling from British Columbia to Québec.

John Kupr, from Port Moody, was arrested at the scene.

He’s charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000 and one count of possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing.

Kupr is scheduled to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on April 16, 2025.
