A Port Moody-based group that teaches students and the public about the illicit drug crisis has won a government grant to continue with its outreach.
Today, April 3, the Ministry of Attorney General announced that the NaloxHome Society is one of more than 60 organizations to get funding for projects aimed at countering racism and promoting inclusivity in B.C.
The $5,000 grant will be put toward the society’s NaloxHome Education Project that offers a health authority-consulted curriculum about the toxic drug epidemic, as well as naloxone training to B.C. high school students. It is led by youth volunteers who build awareness about drug abuse.
As of January 2024, the society has provided naloxone training and drug education to more than 6,000 students in B.C., according to its website.
Started in 2021 by Port Moody resident Chloe Goodison, NaloxHome now has more than 60 assistants to build awareness about the sensitive topic.
Last year, 2,511 people died from suspected drug use — the highest annual death toll ever recorded by the BC Coroners Service.
NaloxHome will host its inaugural annual general meeting on Saturday, April 27 at Coquitlam City Hall (3000 Guildford Way) at 1 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. To save a spot, email [email protected] by April 6.

To be eligible for a grant, projects had to start on March 1, 2024, and finish by March 31, 2025.
