Anna Mathewson is Port Moody’s new city manager.
Currently the city’s general manager of community services, Mathewson, on Feb. 16, will succeed Tim Savoie who is retiring.
Savoie has been Port Moody’s top staffer since 2016 and he was the city’s general manager of development services from 2005–2014 prior to a two-year stint at TransLink at its vice-president of transportation planning and policy.
Mathewson joined the City of Port Moody in February 2022. Before that she worked as the director of environmental services at the City of Abbotsford and she was also the manager of sustainability at the City of Surrey.
Mathewson is a Registered Professional Planner and a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. She earned a master’s degree in resource management from Simon Fraser University (SFU) following her undergrad studies at McGill University in Montreal.
Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti said following an extensive search throughout British Columbia and outside the province, the ideal candidate to become the city’s new manager was already in its employ.
"Anna, with her team’s support, has led several important projects including the city’s urban forest management strategy, parks master planning and strategy initiatives and enhanced emergency weather response procedures, as well as multiple capital projects across the community service department," Lahti said in a statement, adding Mathewson has been instrumental in advancing the city’s organizational efforts in accessibility along with Truth and Reconciliation.
The city manager guides operations as well as staff in their provision of professional advice and recommendations to council while also leading the execution of council’s strategic plan.
