More digital billboards could be coming to Port Moody.
Tuesday (Oct. 11), council is expected to consider an amendment to its current sign bylaw that would enable two more digital billboards to be erected along the Barnet Highway: one along the curve near Union Street, and another just west of the intersection with Clarke Street.
In a report, Port Moody’s general manager of engineering and operations Jeff Moi said the new billboards would be “different” and not as large as two existing billboards erected by Pattison Outdoor Advertising Ltd. in 2020 near the city’s old landfill site and at the corner of Barnet and Ioco Road.
Moi said the company pitching the new structures and the terms of any agreement of the city couldn’t be discussed publicly for competitive reasons.
But, he added, they would bring “financial benefit to the city.”
Council approved the installation of the Pattison billboards in 2019. The city received a signing bonus of $300,000 for each sign and an annual 45 per cent cut of ad revenue, or $377,000 — whichever is greater — for 25 years.
The city is also able to use 10 per cent of the available advertising slots free of charge to promote city or community events, notices and construction advisories.
