An upcoming community harvest dinner in Port Moody is offering the chance for residents to come together, connect and raise money for a good cause.
Inlet United Church is partnering with Pasta Polo's Chef Fred Soofi to host a fundraising event Saturday, Oct. 28 for its community programs.
Community service to Port Moody has been the hallmark of Inlet United, Reverend Jennifer Swanson said in a news release, since its inception as St Andrew's United and IOCO United churches 100 years ago.
"We are the little church with a big heart," said Swanson.
Church member Fran Mitchell added the church is inviting the public "to share in the bounty of the Fall Harvest and in the spirit of an inclusive community."
Inlet United has hosted Meals on Wheels and 12-Step programs in the early days, the release noted — with members collecting clothing, making sandwiches to support downtown eastside and local services for people seeking shelter and support.
More recently, the church said, it continues to help pilot the Cold Wet Weather Shelter program.
In addition to the initiatives, Inlet United has also partnered with Catalyst Community Development Society and Kinsight to build The Springs, a service hub for Kinsight and a place for people to gather, connect, and feel a sense of belonging with no religious strings attached.
The buffet style- dinner this month will provide a three-course meal suitable for every palette, including serving vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. at the Moody Centre church, located at 2315 Spring St., and the dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with live music.
Tickets, ranging from $40 to 65 with a $25 charitable donation receipt, must be purchased before Sunday, Oct. 22.
