The boat ramp at Port Moody's Rocky Point Park is open again after completion of dredging in the navigational channel.

The boat ramp and navigation channel at Port Moody's Rocky Point Park are open again.

The facilities reopened Wednesday (Feb. 15) after they were closed earlier this month to allow for the dredging of sediment to keep the channel into Burrard Inlet open and improve safety around the boat ramp and pier.

The dredging was last done in 2016.

Last June, Port Moody council approved spending an additional $500,000 on the dredging project, atop the original budget of $250,000 because of the discovery of pollutants like dioxin and furan in the sediment during testing.

The contaminated mud was loaded by clamshell bucket onto a barge which transported it to a regulated disposal site.

The dredging was originally scheduled to last until Friday (Feb. 17).
