A Port Moody couple that rolled the dice people still want to play board games is coming up boxcars.
Evan and Alexandra Chan are celebrating the success of their board game events with two more scheduled in April.
The first is April 16, from 6 to 10 p.m., at Brave Brewing Company while the second will be held April 21 at the PoMo Museum. Proceeds from entry donations go to support the museum and the Crossroads Hospice thrift store.
The Chans met at a board game night hosted by mutual friends and decided to extend their love for rolling dice and formulating strategies as a way to reconnect with the community as the COVID-19 pandemic eased.
Since their first event in the old Venosta rail car a year ago, subsequent game gatherings have attracted the mayors of Port Moody and Coquitlam, as well as several councillors. The B.C. Legislature even declared a Community Game Day to coincide with a summer session.
This year, the provincial government has declared April 15 to 21 as Community Game Week.
Evan Chan said the appeal of board games is universal.
“There’s no age limit, anybody can play. People just want to connect with other people.”
The April 16 games night is sponsored by The Fountainhead Network co-working space, with an entry donation of $5.
The $10 entry donation for the April 21 event includes a cup of tea. Players can sign up in blocks, from 12 to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
A variety of games will be available at each event.
