The message is simple, but it appears some local residents still don’t get it.
This week, Coquitlam RCMP explained its Traffic Unit caught a vehicle topping at 132 km/h along Lougheed Highway near Port Coquitlam before 11 a.m. on May 20.
That’s 62 km/h over the posted 70 km/h limit; the vehicle was immediately impounded near the stretch’s intersection with Orchid Drive.
Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Const. Deanna Law tells Tri-City News that the Traffic Unit sees excessively speeding vehicles in multiple areas of the region and commuters are urged to follow the limit.
“Speed is almost always a common contributor to motor vehicle fatalities,” she says.
“Coquitlam RCMP’s Traffic Unit is continually out conducting enforcement throughout the Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam communities.”

For Mounties, this was the second vehicle impoundment in four days.
On May 16 after 10:30 p.m., a Ford Fusion clocked in at 130 km/h along Lougheed Highway near the Coast Meridian intersection where the posted limit is 60 km/h.
A police motorcycle used its radar system to catch the driver.
