Port Coquitlam pitcher Sean Duncan has been named the most valuable player for Canada’s junior national baseball team.
Duncan, 16, was recently presented the Russell Martin Award at the Baseball Canada awards banquet and fundraiser in Toronto.
The award is named for former Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin, who handed out his namesake hardware.
Congratulations to LHP Sean Duncan on receiving the 2025 Russell Martin Award this past weekend at the Baseball Canada Awards Banquet & Fundraiser! 🏆👏

Duncan attends Terry Fox Secondary School. He currently plays for the Langley Blaze in the Premier Baseball League. The left-hander is committed to play for Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., in 2026.
Duncan recorded a win and a save in two pitching appearances at the WBSC Americas U18 World Cup qualifier in Panama where Canada finished fifth. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out nine batters in 8.2 innings.
Duncan was also named for the second straight year to the junior national team’s instructional league camp that was held in the Dominican Republic in October and he’d previously been part of its extended spring training camp and Dominican professional academy camp.
In September, Duncan participated in the Toronto Blue Jays’ 10th annual Canadian Futures Showcase of top young baseball prospects from across Canada where he pitched three scoreless, no-hit innings at the Rogers Centre.
“Canada’s top 2026 prospect continues to show elite stuff,” said Prep Baseball BC in a social media post about Duncan’s performance.
Blue Jays Nation writer Nick Prasad said Duncan “shows nothing but strength and durability on the bump.”
Duncan told the Prep Baseball Report that he’s looking forward to heading to Vanderbilt, which has played in five College World Series, winning in 2014 and 2019 and finishing second twice.
“I feel I can make a difference as soon as I get there,” he said. “I’m a guy that likes to compete and will fit in with the boys.”
Duncan isn't the first pitcher from Port Coquitlam to play for a Canadian national baseball team. Curtis Taylor, who also attended Terry Fox Secondary, appeared on the mound at the World Baseball Classic in 2023.
Taylor was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2016 and subsequently knocked around the minor league affiliates of several Major League Baseball teams, including the Blue Jays in 2019. He most recently played for Algondoneros de Union Laguna of the Mexican League.
