Port Coquitlam mayor keeps city planning, Metro finance for 2024

Port Coquitlam council appointments to internal and external committees are now divvied out for the new year.

Last Monday, Dec. 12, city council OK’d the positions for the local politicians; however, the jobs are the same as this year.

The 2024 city appointments are (in alphabetical order):

  • Coun. Steve Darling: Community Safety; Sports and Recreation; Joint Policing Committee; PoCo Sports Alliance; SD43
  • Coun. Nancy McCurrach: Arts, Culture and Heritage; Environment; Coquitlam River Watershed Roundtable; E-Comm; Fraser Valley Regional Library; PoCo Arts Council; Wilson Seniors Advisory Board
  • Coun. Darrell Penner: Public Works and Transportation
  • Coun. Paige Petriw: Community Experience, Celebrations, Events and Inclusion; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Roundtable; BIA; Municipal/SD43 Mental Health Task Force
  • Coun. Glenn Pollock: Housing; Fraser Health Municipal Government Regional Committee; Joint Policing Committee; Tri-Cities Healthier Communities Partnership; Tri-Cities Homelessness and Housing Task Force
  • Coun. Dean Washington: Finance; Downtown Port Coquitlam; Port Coquitlam Community Foundation
  • Mayor Brad West: Planning; Economic Development; Mayor’s Citizen Advisory Roundtable; Metro Vancouver; TransLink Mayors’ Council

Meanwhile, the board chairperson for Metro Vancouver also came out with the 2024 appointments for regional mayors and councillors.

Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West will continue to take charge of the finance committee while Anmore Mayor John McEwen is keeping in his role as parks chair and Metro board vice chair. 

The Metro committee chair list noticeably does not contain the names of any Coquitlam, Port Moody or Belcarra representatives.

On Wednesday, Dec. 20, George V. Harvie announced the leaders for Metro's 15 standing committees and three task forces that represent the 21 member municipalities, Electoral Area A and Tsawwassen First Nation:

  • Caucus of Committee Chairs: George V. Harvie (Mayor, City of Delta and Chair, Metro Vancouver)
  • Climate Action: Chair Lisa Dominato (Councillor, City of Vancouver)
  • Electoral Area: Chair Jen McCutcheon (Director, Electoral Area A)
  • Finance: Chair Brad West (Mayor, City of Port Coquitlam)
  • Flood Resiliency Committee: Chair Dylan Kruger (Councillor, City of Delta)
  • Housing: Chair Dan Ruimy (Mayor, City of Maple Ridge)
  • Indigenous Relations: Chair Sav Dhaliwal (Councillor, City of Burnaby)
  • Invest Vancouver: Chair Linda Buchanan (Mayor, City of North Vancouver)
  • Liquid Waste: Chair Mike Hurley (Mayor, City of Burnaby)
