A suspect in a string of lottery ticket thefts this spring has been identified and is now facing 17 theft charges.
Coquitlam RCMP responded to more than 17 reports of lotto ticket thefts between March 19 and April 13. After reviewing several similar incidents, investigators from the robbery section and other units identified the suspect as Jason Perfect.
Investigators believe he is also responsible for a number of other alleged lotto ticket thefts.
"In the different security footage videos, investigators observed Mr. Perfect attempting to purchase a large number of lottery tickets with his debit card," said Cpl. Jamie Chung, noting the card was often declined despite several attempts.
"While the clerk was checking if the PIN pad was working properly, Mr. Perfect would allegedly grab the unpaid lottery tickets and run out of the store."
Perfect, a 33-year-old Port Coquitlam resident, was arrested on April 14 and is now facing 17 theft charges. He remains in custody and his next court appearance is Friday.
