Port Coquitlam is making it easier for people who need free menstrual products to access them.
The 12 civic facilities where the products are freely available are now mapped on the Period Pin website.
The online resource highlights public spaces, businesses and facilities offering free menstrual products. It is updated regularly to include new locations.
In Port Coquitlam, those locations are:
- Hyde Creek Community Centre – 1379 Laurier Ave.
- Port Coquitlam Community Centre – 2150 Wilson Ave.
- The Outlet – 2248 McAllister Ave.
- Gathering Place – 200-2253 Leigh Square Pl.
- City Hall – 2580 Shaughnessy St.
- Robert Hope Pool – 2317 Lamprey Dr.
- Routley Pool – 1570 Western Dr.

Port Coquitlam joined a growing roster of communities making menstrual products available for free in civic facilities in 2020 as a result of a Period Promise campaign by the United Way aimed at ending “period poverty” for girls and women.
According to the organization, almost a quarter of Canadian women say they’ve struggled to afford menstrual products for themselves or their daughters.
Coquitlam also has free menstrual product dispensers in dozens of public washrooms across the city as does Port Moody, in facilities like the recreation complex, civic centre, Kyle Centre and Rocky Point Park.
School District 43 has also installed dispensers in all its middle and secondary schools.
