An undisclosed number of employees at the Costco in Port Coquitlam have been given the Pfizer vaccine in order to prevent an outbreak and closure of the big box store.
Fraser Health was at the store over the weekend testing and immunizing workers in response to the cluster, according to the health authority, which covers the Tri-Cities.
Late Monday, Fraser Health confirmed to the Tri-City News that it is responding to a "significant COVID-19 cluster" at the Port Coquitlam Costco.
"We are taking an aggressive management approach which includes expanded testing and immunization in order to prevent an outbreak."
No further information was provided.
This isn’t the first time that the Port Coquitlam store has had a staff COVID-19 case.
In October, the Tri-City News reported that staff had been informed about a case but workers were not told in what department the individual worked.
Meanwhile, Port Coquitlam is dealing with COVID-19 in a nail salon, where an individual tested positive and was working at the store over several days in February, and two schools reported positive COVID-19 tests over several days last week.
At Cedar Drive elementary someone who tested positive for COVID-19 was on school grounds March 8, 9, 10, and 11 at least two classes have been asked to self isolate for 14 days, according to information on BC Covid Tracker. The Tri-City News has reached out to Fraser Health for confirmation.
As well, Minnekhada Middle school in Port Coquitlam has been flagged for COVID 19 on March 8, 10 and 11.
The health authority, which covers Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody, issued a notice last week on its exposure website alerting patrons of White Sparkle Nails about possible COVID-19 exposure on several dates in February.
White Sparkle Nails is located at 1125 Nicola Ave., and the exposure dates are between Feb. 20-23 and Feb.25-28.
