A condo sales centre in Port Moody that’s become a popular community meeting place is scheduled to reopen on Feb. 5.

Outpost closed in November to accommodate some renovations that include the expansion of its sales centre into a second structure.

It will be used to market a new project in West Coquitlam by Langley-based developer Marcon.

The developer opened Outpost in 2022.

But rather than just building a model suite and sales area in a temporary structure at 3001 St. Johns St., it included a café, curated displays from local brands, a lounge area and an outdoor patio in the back that doubled as a performance space for local musicians, comedians and other performers.

In addition to a variety of coffees from Timbertrain Coffee Roasters as well as teas and hot chocolate, the café features light sandwiches, bagels and pastries along with beers from several craft breweries around Metro Vancouver.

“It’s reinventing the sales centre,” said Marcon’s brand partnerships and event manager, Mandy Yacoub.

“There’s fatigue in the market so we have to make it interesting and different.”

Originally intended as a pop-up facility to market Marcon’s 222-unit Hue project that is currently under construction at the site of the old Barnet Hotel, Outpost became a popular meeting place for mobile workers and hosted community events like book launches, live music and trivia events. The Vancouver Run Company used it as a gathering point for group runs.

Last September, Port Moody council approved a three-year extension to the company’s temporary use permit.

Armita Afsahi, the city’s development planner, said Outpost had been a good neighbour and even adjusted its hours after a few noise complaints. It will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily when it reopens.

Casa Del Pane bakery also reopening

After some minor glitches that prevented beloved Port Moody bakery Casa Del Pane from reopening last week, its breads and Italian pastries will once again be available beginning Monday, Feb. 5.

In an announcement on its Facebook page, Casa Del Pane said some delivery delays caused by inclement weather through mid-January and final touches to its renovation work prevented its planned reopening on Jan. 22.

“Thank you for all your patience while we have worked so hard to perfect things for this exciting upcoming date.”

Casa Del Pane was forced to close almost nine months ago after a burst pipe flooded its premises in NewPort Village.
