Coquitlam RCMP seek help identifying a suspicious male and white car in Port Coquitlam Oct. 14.

Coquitlam RCMP are asking the public for CCTV or dash cam footage that might help identify a man who allegedly approached two girls near a Port Coquitlam elementary school.

As reported by the Tri-City News last Saturday, the two girls were walking in the area of Central Avenue and Mary Hill Road, near Central Community Elementary School, on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 14, when they were approached by a man asking if they wanted to go to Walmart to buy cookies.

The two girls “did the right thing” and ran away, according to police.

In a subsequent update, Coquitlam RCMP issued a press release on Sunday, requesting help in the investigation.

Mounties are now asking the public to provide any CCTV or dash cam video in the area of Central Avenue/Mary Hill Road, taken between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct 14 that may have captured an image of the white four-door sedan and/or a suspicious male.

The male is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • 5'10" with a round belly
  • dark hair (half bald) and a goatee
  • black shirt
  • high-pitched voice

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file 2021-28496.

Police also recommend that kids have a safety plan, walk in groups and stick to populated routes.
