Residents of Pitt Meadows are being urged to be cautious after a woman's body was found at a blueberry farm last weekend, and officials believe she may have been killed by a bear.
In a post shared to Facebook this evening (Aug. 20), the BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) says the woman's body was found in a blueberry farm field along Old Dewdney Trunk Road, near McKechnie Road, on Sunday (Aug. 15).
While the Conservation Officer Service initially thought her body had been “disturbed by an animal,” they're now looking into whether a bear may have been involved in her death.
“The Conservation Officer Service is urging the public to take precautions in the Pitt Meadows area where a woman’s body was found as they investigate the possibility of an animal attack,” the BCCOS said in the post.
“The COS is continuing to assist the RCMP in their investigation and are working to determine whether an animal, such as a black bear, may have been involved in this incident.”
The Conservation Officer Service has asked the public to report any sightings of aggressive black bears in the area to the Report All Poachers and Polluters hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
