While some New Year's revellers recouperated in their warm beds, hundreds of others decided to dive right into 2019 at Tuesday's annual Penguin Plunge at the boat launch in Port Moody's Rocky Point Park.
The annual event — a New Year's Day tradition since the 1970s — is organized by the Pleasantside Community Association and registration fees are used to support programming at Old Orchard Hall.
Life guards from the city of Port Moody were on hand to enure everyone stayed safe, and the Port Moody fire department administered a bonfire to help swimmers warm up after their chilling dip.
Photographers Robert McDonald and Elaine Fleury caught some of the action and frivolity, and presumably stayed dry themselves.
