A Port Coquitlam pensioner has taken her annual Halloween display down after two large pieces were stolen last week.
The two large, inflatable displays - one includes a dead tree, skull, tombstone and bats while the other was a large ghost - were in the front yard of Heather Thomas' Manning Street home until Thursday night. She figures they were taken sometime between 1:30 and 5 a.m. on Oct. 19, even though she was up for much of the night and the television was on.
"I've been here for 50 years and I've put this display on, the little kids just love it," Thomas said, adding she puts up similar displays at Christmas and Easter. "Those low lifes, and I call them low life because they're hitting the kids more than me."
Thomas saved for several years on her limited pension to buy the items and considered them a significant splurge, one she was willing to make to see the kids' faces light up when they came to trick-or-treat at her house.
She said she was so upset that she took the rest of her display inside after the theft.
"It took me for a shock - it takes a long time to get this stuff," Thomas said. "It really aggravates me."
