On Our Radar: Coquitlam bakery serving up gourmet hot cocoa for 12th regional festival

BjornBar has concocted two mouth-watering drinks set to be served until Valentine's Day (Feb. 14).

Did looking at the above photos make your mouth fill up with saliva as much as it did with us?

If you answered 'yes,' a Coquitlam business has got the drinks your sweet-tooth will savour with every sip.

BjornBar Bakery is currently taking part in the 12th annual Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival, which supports local small businesses and their creativity in the community.

It is one of nearly 70 locations across Metro Vancouver participating in the initiative this year with more than 100 unique flavours to indulge by chocolatiers, bakers, chefs and ice-cream makers.

BjornBar has created two special hot cocoa cups, each with its own distinct sweetness:

CIAO BELLA

  • Tiramisu hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, cocoa powder, and tiramisu ganookie bites
  • On the side – tiramisu ganache-filled chocolate cookie
    • Pssssst, the ganache in the cookie contains alcohol

I'D TAP THAT

  • Maple hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and maple walnut fudge bar bites
  • Served with a maple walnut fudge bar
    • BTW, this goodie is gluten-free but contains nuts

Starting in 2011, the Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival is said to be the first-of-its-kind in all of the world as a way to best the "westcoast winter" blues.

Interested tasters have until Feb. 14 to get their hands on these concoctions.

Residents are encouraged to take part in the festival's social media contest by posting a photo to Instagram with #HCFphotocontest for a chance to win the grand prize of a $500 gift card to the vendors involved.

BjornBar Bakery — located in the Burquitlam neighbourhood at 111-581 Clarke Rd. — is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.

You can visit it's website for more information.
