A Coquitlam brewery is set to host a stand-up comedy show as one of the stops of a new summer tour.
Funny Side Up is bringing three comics to Mariner Brewing in August — all of whom are based out of Vancouver have appeared in regional competitions.
"There is not often stand-up comedy in Coquitlam, and it would be something brand new for people to enjoy," said company co-founder Jeremiah Ukponrefe in a statement to the Tri-City News.
He's also set to perform on the local stage with a clever-observation style of comedy that's classified as "subversive darkness" under a "veil of innocence."
His resume includes stints at the Island, Guelph and Halifix fringe festivals, as well as a March 2021 novel title Hive, the first of The Arcane Volumes.
The 90-minute program will be headlined by Robert Peng.
His four-year career has taken him across the Pacific Northwest after not being able to secure an engineering job, and is known to deliver gut-punching humour about the struggles of dating and job searching.
Funny Side Up co-founder Abdul Ali is set to host the Coquitlam tour stop, and will also take the microphone to talk about his Middle Eastern and Filipino-Canadian upbringing.
The show is scheduled for Aug. 11, 8 to 9:30 p.m. at Mariner Brewing — located at 1100 Lansdowne Dr.
Tickets are $16.93 each and can be purchased on the show's EventBrite page.
